in plain and short, we simply will divide the whole amount of 2.5lbs by (7+2+5), and then distribute accordingly to each component,

\bf \stackrel{walnuts}{7}~~:~~\stackrel{peanuts}{2}~~:~~\stackrel{chocolate}{5} \\\\\\ \stackrel{walnuts}{7\cdot (2.5)/(7+2+5)}~~:~~\stackrel{peanuts}{2\cdot (2.5)/(7+2+5)}~~:~~\stackrel{chocolate}{5\cdot (2.5)/(7+2+5)}

\bf \stackrel{walnuts}{7\cdot (2.5)/(14)}~~:~~\stackrel{peanuts}{2\cdot (2.5)/(14)}~~:~~\stackrel{chocolate}{5\cdot (2.5)/(14)} \\\\\\ \stackrel{walnuts}{(2.5)/(2)}~~:~~\stackrel{peanuts}{(2.5)/(7)}~~:~~\stackrel{chocolate}{(12.5)/(14)} \\\\\\ \stackrel{walnuts}{(5)/(4)}~~:~~\stackrel{peanuts}{(5)/(14)}~~:~~\stackrel{chocolate}{(25)/(28)}

Answer:

7lbs

Explanation:

7 : 2 : 5

5 / 2.5 lbs = 2

2 / 2 = 1

7 / 2 = 3.5

2.5 + 3.5 + 1 = 7 lbs
