We will use a system of equations for this. We will use elimination to solve the system of equations.
X= baseballs and Y= bats
x+y= 100
4.50x+ 20y= 822
Let's eliminate x by multiplying the first equation by -4.5.
-4.5x-4.5y= -450
4.50x+20y=822
15.50y=372
372÷15.5=24
So, there were 24 bats ordered. Let's plug in 24 for y in the first equation to find x.
X+24=100
100-24= 76
There were 76 baseballs ordered. To check this, let's plug in both values in the second equation.
4.50(76)+20(24)
342+480=822
There were 76 baseballs ordered and 24 bats ordered for baseball camp.
