The total bonding energy for the reactants in a reaction is 1230 kJ/mol and the bonding energy of the products is 565 kJ/mol. Calculate the change in enthalpy, and classify the reaction as endothermic or exothermic. -665 kJ/mol, endothermic 665 kJ/mol, exothermic -665 kJ/mol, exothermic 665 kJ/mol, endothermic

The enthalpy change for a reaction is given by subtracting the total bonding energy of the reactants from the total bonding energy of reactants.
Therefore; 565 kJ/mol - 1230 kJ/mol =-665 kJ/mol
The negative value indicates that the reaction is exothermic;
Thus; the answer is 665 kJ/mol exothermic
In an exothermic reaction the energy of the products is lower than the energy of the reactants.
