Life in Rome: Letters Guidelines and Rubric

Unit 2, Lesson 6

History is the story of the past. You have studied the accomplishments and power of the Roman

Empire. What would it have been like to live in that time and place? Would everyone have had

the same perspective? What might life have been like for a rich person? A poor person? A

slave?

Today you will tell the story of two young people living in ancient Rome, showing how their lives

were different. One must be wealthy; the other must be from another social class, such as a

slave, shopkeeper, or servant. You will want to describe their homes, what they did for fun, what

their family life was like, and what it was like to live in the city of Rome. Your story can take the

form of a series of letters exchanged between the two young people.
