The Sahel's location was important to the early empire of Ghana because it was a trade link between the Mediterranean coast and the rest of Africa. Saleh’s location thus made it the main center of trade enabling imports such as textiles, ornaments and other materials into the empire and the export of hand-crafted leather goods and other items.

In the early empire of Ghana Sahel’s location is the most needed and important because it is the most trade link between the coast and the rest of Africa and Mediterranean region. This is where both regions can trade easily and conveniently.
