take 1/2 of linear coefient and square it
18 is linear coefient so 18/2=9, 9^2=81
add that to both sides

x^2+18x+81=125
factor perfect square trionomial

(x+9)^2=125
there, completed the square

if you want to solvesquare root both sides, don't forget positive and negative roots

x+9=\pm √(125)

x=-9 \pm 5√(5)

x=-9+5√(5) and
x=-9-5√(5)

Set the equation to 0. Subtract 44 from both sides

x^2+18x=44

x^2 + 18x (-44) = 44 (-44)

x² + 18x - 44 = 0

x 22

x -4

(x + 22)(x - 4) = 0 is your answer

hope this helps
