you do 5-3 and you get 2 then divide 42 by 2 and your answer is 21

Because of PEMDA's(Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition) we do what's within the parenthesis first.
So 5 - 3 is 2.
So now we're left with 42 divided by 2 and that is 21.
