Why was Germany’s split between the Protestants in the north and Catholics in the south important

The Catholics were mad about too many people in Germany wanted to be Protestant, and they couldn't really have power over them. So, they decided to not to expose the South (themselves) to the North (protestant) who had more freedom. Hope this helps!
