Crossmultiply first:
24(26x - 5) = 56(2x - 7)

Now distribute the outside to the binomials:
24(26x) + 24(- 5) = 56(2x) + 56(- 7)

Simplify:
624x - 120 = 112x - 392

Now subtract 112x from both sides and add 120 to both sides to get variables on one side and constants on the other:
624x - 112x = - 392 + 120
512x = - 272

Divide both sides by 512 to isolate the variable x:
x = - 272 / 512
x = - 17 / 32
