Kitchen is shaped like a rectangle with dimensions of 11 1/2‘ x 9 1/2‘. The floor of the room is made of square tiles with a side length of 1/2 ft. What is the number of tiles that will cover the kitchen floor?

-- The area of the kitchen floor is (11.5 ft) x (9.5 ft) = 109.25 square ft.

-- The area of each tile is (0.5) x (0.5) = 0.25 square ft.

-- If the tiles are carefully placed, with no overlap and no big sloppy spaces
between them, the number of tiles required to cover the floor is

(109.25 ft²) / (0.25 ft²/tile) = 437 tiles .
