First we distribute 3 into 2x and -4.

3 x 2x = 6x
3 x -4 = -12

That will make the left side of the equation:

6x - 12 = 5x + 2

Now we subtract 5x on both sides of the equation.

x - 12 = 2

Finally we add 12 on both sides of the equation.

x = 14 is the answer
