What is assemblage? How is this approach different from other forms of sculpture?

Assemblage is an art structure or medium regularly created on a fixed substrate that consists of three-dimensional parts extending out of or from the substrate. It is similar to collage, a two-dimensional medium. There's a very subtle, almost indistinguishable line separating a bulky, multi-layered collage and an assemblage made in notably shallow relief.

Assemblage is one of the basic sculpture techniques. It is consisting of joined and gathered different objects that are assembled to create a piece. This approach differs from other forms of sculpture because Carving is a type of sculpture that cut/chip a shape away, Casting is a type of sculpture that uses melted object hardened in a mold cast and Modeling are made from a soft object and is built to make a form.
