Chiefly logging and fur trading were established by the French along the Mississippi and Louisiana territories. It was a profitable business for many years for the French until Napoleon sold the territories (including Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska) to the United States in 1803 in what is called the Louisiana Purchase.
