they basically pass laws..i try to remember this by say Legislature and Laws...i hope i helpd

The role of a state legislature is to "create laws." There are three branch's of government Legislative, Judicial, and Executive each have there separate roles for the government. The legislative role is to make laws. Therefore the answer is to make laws.
