The best way to describe Eisenhower's foreign policy is Containment.
Eisenhower's main goal of foreign policy was to contain communism. He was scared of the domino effect ( communism spreading from country to another ), and later on during his term he thought that containment only was not enough.
His foreign policy was a response to a series of moves by the Soviet Union to enlarge its communist sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, china, Korea and Vietnam.
To stop the Soviet expansion, a policy of Massive Retaliation was adopted, in which the U.S. was prepared to use atomic weapons if they were to be attacked.
