In the study of history, what is one major difference between a theme and a period?

A region deals with one specific place, but a theme can apply in many places. Hope this helped :)

The major difference is the necessity of time. The historic theme is related to a specific idea or subject that is the common ground for that topic, such as themes of archaeology, civil rights, and philosophy. Historic period is related to a time characterized by a notable mark from a fixed point or event, such as the Great Depression and the Middle Ages.
