The calculated value of x in the circle is 266

How to determine the value of x

From the question, we have the following parameters that can be used in our computation:

The circle

Also, we have

AB = 42, BC = 18 and CD= 4

Using the theorem of intersecting secant lines, we have

AC * BC = DC * (x + DC)

Substitute the known values into the equation

(42 + 18) * 18 = 4 * (x + 4)

This gives

1080 = 4 * (x + 4)

So, we have

x + 4 = 270

Evaluate

x = 266

Hence, the value of x is 266
