Shen: Lara:

d = -40t + 200 d = 185 - 35t

Shen catches up to Lara:
-40t + 200 = 185 - 35t
-5t = -15
t = 3

Shen gets to finish line at 5 hours (t = 5)
Lara:

When t = 5, d = 185 - 35(5) = 185 - 175 = 10 (10 miles away)

Lara gets to the finish line
185 - 35t = 0
35t = 185
t = 5.3

Answers:

Shen catches up to Lara 3 hours after the start of the race.
When Shen gets to the finish line, Lara is still 10 miles away from the finish line.
To the nearest tenth of an hour, Lara finishes the race in a total of 5.3 hours.
