It costs $35 per hour to rent a boat at the lake.

You also need to pay a $25 fee for safety equipment.
You have $200.

For how long can you rent the boat?

Well, if you take $200 - $25 you would get $175. Next, you would need to divide $175 by $35 to get 5 hours. So he would only be able to rent the boat for 5 hours.
Hope this helps! :D

Let x = number of hours.
Let y = the cost of the rental

The rental fee is the fixed fee plus the hourly fee.

y = 35x + 25

You have $200, so let the cost, y, equal $200, and solve for the number of hours, x.

200 = 35x + 25

35x + 25 = 200

35x = 175

x = 5

Answer: You can rent the boat for 5 hours.
