The functional results are first manifested as;
Enhanced respiratory rate or depth; increased alertness and focus and increased glucose utilization. Also the functional changes are first manifested by the neuroendocrine system. The neuroendocrine system interacts with the immune system in modulating response to stress. Neuroendocrine system is a complex regulatory mechanism that includes the hypothalamus, the pituitary and its connection to the brain and the extrahypothalamic regions.

Select one or more:

A. Increased glucose utilization
B. Enhanced respiratory rate/depth
C. Increased GI peristalsis
D. Cravings for high-carbohydrate foods
E. Increased alertness and focus

Exposure to stress activates the neuroendocrine system that plays a role in the responses to stress and attempts to adapt. By secreting hormones like adrenalin and noradrenalin which will improve the mobilization of energy (the increase of glucose use by the body), increased cerebral blood flow, a sharpened focus, and awareness, enhanced cardiovascular and respiratory functioning, It leads also to a decrease in appetite, which means a decrease of the peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract, and the decrease of the craving for high-carbohydrate foods.
