The Anglican Church was led by the king of England and conducted services in English.
Originally, when Henry VIII broke from Rome, the doctrine and practice of the Church of England remained essentially as it was under the Roman Catholic authority of the pope. But after Henry died and his young son Edward VI succeeded him, changes to the way of worship were introduced with the Book of Common Prayer, first published in 1649. The Book of Common Prayer became a very important book for the pattern of worship in England for centuries to come.
