linear;\ y=-3x-6\\\\check:\\for\ x=0\to y=-3(0)-6=-6\ :)\\for\ x=1\to y=-3(1)-6=-3-6=-9\ :)\\for\ x=2\to y=-3(2)-6=-6-6=-12\ :)\\for\ x=3\to y=-3(3)-6=-9-6=-15\ :)\\for\ x=4\to y=-3(4)-6=-12-6=-18\ :)\\\\\boxed{Answer:\ linear;\ y=-3x-6}

Use\ the\ quadratic\ formula:\\\\8x^2+18x-24=0\\a=8;\ b=18;\ c=-24\\\\b^2-4ac=18^2-4\cdot8\cdot(-24)=324+768=1092\\√(b^2-4ac)=√(1092)\approx33.045\\\\x_1=(-18-33.045)/(2\cdot8)\approx-3.19\\\\x_2=(-18+33.045)/(2\cdot8)\approx0.94\\\\\boxed{Answer:\ 0.94,\ -3.19}

x^2+2x=17\\\\x^2+2x\cdot1=17\ \ \ |+1^2\\\\\underbrace{x^2+2x\cdot1+1^2}_((a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2)=17+1^2\\\\(x+1)^2=18\to x+1=\pm√(18)\\\\x=-√(18)-1\ \vee\ x=√(18)-1\\\\\boxed{Answer:\ 3.24,\ -5.24}

1. All the Y values decrease by 3, so this is a linear function.
Answer would be the third choice.

2. First, factor 2 out of the equation. Then divide both sides by 2. After that use the quadratic formula to solve for x.
X = 0.94, -3.19 The third choice is the answer

3. subtract 17 from both sides, now you have a polynomial. Using the quadratic formula to solve for X, the answer is 3.25, -5.24
