Book: EVERYTHING I never told you
Choose one example of a misunderstanding, miscommunication, or instance of differing interpretations
between characters. A few examples would be Lydia's and Nath's different perspectives on the time
Nath pushed Lydia into the lake, Nath's misunderstanding of Jack's intentions when he was bullied at
the pool, Marilyn's or James' assumptions about Lydia's academic and social life, or James'
interpretation of what Marilyn says in chapter 8 ("If she were a white girl...)
First, find the specific page(s) where the misunderstanding occurs. Write the page(s) here_
Summarize what happens on that page/pages below. Identify where, when, and how it takes place. In
addition, explain the perspective of each character involved.
Next, analyze how this scene contributes to character development. What do the thoughts, actions,
reactions, or words of each character show us about who they are, what is important to them, or what
they're feeling? Does the scene explain anything about each character's past or future actions? If so,
what?
