A crow flies 100 meters east in 5 minutes. What is the crow’s velocity?

Velocity =
(distance between the start and end points) / (time to cover it)
and the direction from the start point to the end point.

For this particular crow:

distance between start-point and end-point = 100 meters
time to cover the distance = 5 minutes

Velocity = (100 meters east) / (5 minutes) = 20 meters/minute East.

Converting to more familiar units:

(20 meter/minute) · (1 minute / 60 seconds) = 1/3 meter/second East

OR

(20 meters/minute) · (60 minute/hour) · (1 mile / 1,609 meters)

= (20 · 60 / 1,609) (meter · minute · mile / minute · hour · meter)

= 0.746 mile per hour East .
