x= smaller number
4x= larger number
SMALLER NUMBER
4x - x= 9
combine like terms
3x= 9
divide both sides by 3
x= 3
LARGER NUMBER
4x= 4(3)= 12
ANSWER: The smaller number is 3 and the larger number is 12
