The brain of a reptile is about the same size as that of an amphibian, but the cerebrum and optical lobes are comparatively larger. The cerebrum deals with behavioral responses to the environment, while the optical lobe processes vision. How might life entirely on land require greater behavioral and visual information and responses? Does brain size and composition indicate anything about animal characteristics and if so, what?

Answer:

1- Life on land require higher standards of vision and behavior. The environmental adaption of visual system of reptiles is an example of the evolutionary process. Competition on land is increase so that is why reptiles are forced to become partially or completely nocturnal.

2- In general total brain volume weakly correlates with intelligence, correlation value is around 0.3 to 0.4 out of 1. In simple words the brain volumes related to characteristics about 9% to 16%
