In August 1700 Peter conquered the Swedish Coastal territory with an aim to expand and regain lost territories. He hoped to weaken the might and power of the Swedish empire to create a more prestigious and powerful image of Russia which he had tried to do throughout his reign. Peter further felt that this would be a chance to raise Russia's diplomatic prestige and pride of Russians as this would be an opportunity to rise as a military power if they defeated the legend of Swedish military.
