x^2 + 6x = -2 is a quadratic equation that can be solved by completing the square.

x^2 + 6x + (6/2)^2 - (6/2)^2 = -2

Rewriting this, (x+3)^2 = -2 + (6/2)^2 = -2 + 9 = 7

tAKING THE sqrt f both sides, we get x+3 = plus or minus 5.

Finally, x = -3 plus or minus 5, which boils down to x=2 and x= -8.
