-5x + 1 = -8 + 4
-5x + 1 = -4 |subtract 1 from both sides
-5x = -5 |divide both sides by (-5)
x = 1

I assume it needs to be solved for x

-5x + 1 = -8 + 4
First combine like terms
-5x + 1 = -4
Next subtract
-5x + 1 = -4
- 1 -1
-5x = -5
Next divide
-5x =-5
-5x/
-5x / -5 = -5 / -5
Simplfy
X = 1
