Considering the attached diagram; The species that has the highest energy is structure B. This is because it is in the transition state, which has the highest energy. Looking at it there is no stable bonding for the atoms involved; it must change to either structure A or C to exist. A catalyst will lower this added energy, the activation energy, and allow the reaction to progress at a higher rate.
