a. southerners became less willing to criticize the practice of slavery

Turner’s main goal in leading his revolt was to instill fear and panic across the southern states while encouraging his fellow slaves to revolt against their slave owners. It however raised tensions and culminated into more conflict between the south and the north which ended in the civil war.
