The social ranking where men typically inhabit higher status in a society than women is referred to as gender stratification. According to some cross-cultural studies done by some anthropologists, children as young as two or three areĀ  socially aware of gender roles, and by the age of four or five, most children already established a culturally appropriate gender roles. These studies also reveal that the notion on gender roles were obtained through socialization, where they easily learn through observation how people behave and act in a particular way, as dictated by social values, beliefs and attitudes.
