Macie just bought a new fish tank. The fish tank is a cube with a side length of 1.75 feet. She is going to fill the fish tank using a small plastic container she found in her kitchen cupboard by filling it at the sink, walking it to the tank, emptying it and repeating the process until the tank is full. If the small plastic container is a cube with the side length of 8 inches, how many trips does she need to make to completely fill the fish tank?

The volume of a cube is given by:
V = L ^ 3
Where,
L: length of one side of the cube
For the fish tank we have the volume is:
V1 = (1.75) ^ 3
V1 = 5.359375 feet ^ 3
For the plastic container we have the volume in feet is:
V2 = (8 * (1/12)) ^ 3
V2 = 0.296296296
Therefore, the number of times is:
N = V1 / V2
N = 5.359375 / 0.296296296
N = 18
Answer:
she needs to make 18 trips to completely fill the fish tank
