The most responsible for changing the boiling and freezing points of a solvent is the number of the solute particles.
Colligative properties-involves simple adding a solute changes the properties of the solvent, this is why salt is added to the roads in winter time to prevent water from freezing. Freezing point is the temperature at which a liquid becomes a solid, it is normally lower than the melting point in the cases of mixtures and for certain organic compounds such as fats.

The most responsible values for a change to happen on the boiling and freezing point of a solvent is the number of solute particles. This is generally known as colligative properties. By simply adding a solute, regardless of its identity, it can change the properties of the solvent. Colligative properties includes, vapor pressure lowering, boiling point elevation, freezing point depression, and osmostic pressure.
