Why can small solute molecules pass through semi permeable membrane but colloid and suspension particles not?

In dialysis, a semipermeable membrane, called a dialyzing membrane, permits small solute molecules and ions as well as solvent water molecules to pass through, but it retains large particles, such as colloids. o Dialysis is a way to separate solution particles from colloids
