Mrs. Avery is going to randomly select one student from her class to read a poem out loud. There are 151515 boys and 131313 girls in her class.

What is \text{P(boy})P(boy)P, left parenthesis, b, o, y, right parenthesis?

Answer:

0.54

Explanation:

Probability = Number of favorable outcomes/ Number of posssible outcomes

There are
15 favorable outcomes (the
15 boys).

There are
28 possible outcomes (the
15 + 13 = 28 total students in the class.)

P (boy)
= (15)/(28)
0.54

Sometimes Latex can be a real monster.

Let me just put into language what I think you mean.

Givens
Number of boys = 15
Number of girls = 13

Total number of students = (15 + 13) = 28

P(boy) = 15 / 28 or in decimal form
P(boy) = 0.5357
