Matt plans to put concrete on a rectangular portion of his driveway. The portion is 8 feet long and 4 inches high. The price of concrete is $98 per cubic yard. The total cost of the concrete Matt needs is $58.07. Which of the following is closest to the width of the portion of the driveway on which Matt plans to put concrete?

First of all, you know that 1 cubic yard = 27 feet. Then you have to find the total amount of cubic yards. 1 cubic yard = $98. We have to use a variable that has to be width or x. Now you can solve for x. You should get x "cubic yard" = $58.07 *Not the answer. 1/x = 98/58.07 ≈ .5925. Next, convert to cubic feet. We know all essential dimensions so now we can solve. 1/.5925 = 27/x. Using this information we can assume that x = 15.99 cubic feet. Lastly, do L*W*H = 16. W*8*(1/3) = 16 so W = 48/8 which 6 feet. *W = 6 ft (Hope this helps!)
