Answer: an easier distribution of body fluids to remember is the 60:40:20 rule: 60% of body weight is water, 40% of body weight is ICF, and 20% of body weight is ECF (see Fig. 1-1). Many clinicians use 20% as an estimate for ECF when calculating fluid therapy needs for their patients.
