The kinetic energy gets faster as the atoms move faster.  Atoms move faster when heat is applied and more slower when they cool.

Answer;

The Average kinetic energy of the molecules increases

Explanation;

  • Kinetic energy is the energy that causes motion of molecules. When a pot of water is subjected to heat the temperature of water rises. As the temperature rises, the kinetic energy of the molecules also increases and the molecules of water vibrates more fast.
  • Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy, therefore as the water in the pot heats up the average kinetic energy rises. Increase in the kinetic energy increases the vibration of water molecules until the water boils.
