Answer:

The place Nicaragua is located in the southern part of North America, near the Pacific ocean. This place has experienced a severe drought in the year 1997 because of the effect of the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

El Nino refers to the heating and warming of the surface of the ocean. Here, the average surface temperature of the sea gradually increases, in the central region and the eastern tropical part of the Pacific Ocean. The rainfall eventually reduces over the country Indonesia and its nearby region. On the other hand, rainfall significantly increases in the tropical regions of the Pacific Ocean. The low-level surface winds that blow from the region of eastern to the western Pacific along the equator, get affected and it eventually becomes weak or the wind starts blowing from the opposite direction, and are also known as the “westerly winds”.

The main cause for the drought is the natural phenomenon known as El Nino. The Climate Change has triggered the drought in Nicaragua. The environmental organization does not only blame the drought due to the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), but also the lack of public policies to control the rampant deforestation.
