The answer is The ability of the heart tissue to conduct electrical signals must be altered in order for the EKG to detect a problem. In order for an EKG to detect a problem the electrical signals traveling through the heart muscle must be altered. If the electrical signal is abnormal it will show up on the EKG graph, indicating a problem.
