Hello, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) defines four steps of alcohol recovery:
- Treatment Initiation: the alcoholic should take the treatment without quitting it.
- Early Abstinence: the most difficult step. The alcoholic must follow the counselor's advice to pass through this step.
- Maintaining abstinence: It starts after 90 days of abstinence, and it lasts five years. The alcoholic will feel more comfortable with the abstinence.
- Advanced Recovery: during this step, the alcoholic will be a healthy person and will live very well.
