The Freedmen's Bureau (officially the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands) is an institution created in the aftermath of the Civil War in order to help former slaves assimilate into mainstream society. The Bureau will be instrumental in helping freed slaves, as it provides food, clothing, fuel, shelter and other provisions. The bureau will also establish schools, offer legal assistance and provide medical aid. It is necessary for all Americans to support the work of the bureau so that all citizens are able to enjoy happy, fulfilling lives.
