Answer:

Brazil, due to its history of colonization, late development and economic dependence, in addition to its old and recent internal social problems, has a large number of people living below the poverty line. Thus, because it represents an emerging underdeveloped country, poverty in Brazil has high levels.

According to an official data from the Brazilian Ministry of Development against Hunger dated 2011, there were in Brazil until this year about 16.27 million people in condition of "extreme poverty", ie, with a monthly family income under $ 16 per person. We must remember that exceeding this value does not mean abandoning poverty altogether, but only extreme poverty.

It must be said, however, that poverty is not an exclusive condition of one region or another, as is commonly thought. Virtually every city in the country (especially the outskirts of large metropolitan centers) has people below the poverty line.
