The Summer Jobs Program

Tammy and Keith each work two part time jobs in the summer mowing lawns and raking yards. Tammy earns $10 for each lawn she mows and $5 for each yard she rakes. She wants to earn more than $200 for her part time jobs. Keith earns $12 for each lawn she mows and $3 for each yard he rakes. He wants to earn more than $180 for his part time jobs.

Given:
Tammy - 10 (lawn), 5 (yard), more, 200
Keith - 12 (lawn), 3 (yard), more, 180

Required: Linear inequalities with x as the # of lawns they mow and y as the # of yards they rake (each)

Solution/Answer:
(pay for each lawn she/he mows) (# of lawn she/he mows) + (pay for each yard she/he rakes) (# of yard she/he rakes) >/</= he/she wants to earn for that part time job

Tammy: 10x + 5y > 200
Keith: 12x + 3y > 180
