Business venture--South Carolina was set up as a joint-stock colony meaning it was a business colony with the purpose of making money.

South Carolina was set up to make money for business owners, stock holders, and the British government. Cash crops were the means of making money out of the South Carolina colony. It would eventually become a hub of slavery and slave trade as well as cash crop production.
