All the colonies of corals release their tiny eggs and sperms (gametes) at the same time into the ocean. This phenomena occurs once in year when temperature is favorable. This synchrony reproduction is referred as mass spawning. Mass release of gametes are crucial because the gametes of most corals are viable for only a few hours.
