What is the rule in ASL if both hands are moving for a sign? In ASL, one hand is a dominate and one is the non-dominate hand. The dominate hand is used for finger spelling and for one-handed signs. If you need to use both hands, the non-dominate hand becomes your partner hand and jumps in when both hands are moving. If the signs are two-handed, the right hand which is the dominate hand will move and the non-dominate, left hand, will support.
