before World War 1, the wars used to be longer but a smaller scale. It was very expensive to maintain an large army with the newest technology . Why, because production used to be very slow. Many things that were invented during the 1800s contributed to a faster production. so by 1914, weaponry was way easier to maintain at a large scale.

You put WW1 and WW1 but it allowed machines to be produced at a fast rate, and increase in technology. There were new weapons, and increased deadliness of the war.
