Read the excerpt from Romeo and Juliet, Act I, Scene v. Romeo: O! then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do; They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair. Juliet: Saints do not move, though grant for prayers’ sake. 105 Romeo: Then move not, while my prayers’ effect I take. Thus from my lips, by thine, my sin is purg’d. [Kissing her.] Juliet: Then have my lips the sin that they have took. Romeo: Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urg’d! Give me my sin again. This is an example of dramatic irony because the audience is relieved that Romeo has found a suitable partner. the audience is eager to discover Rosaline’s opinion of the couple. Romeo and Juliet are shy characters who usually avoid social events. Romeo and Juliet have yet to discover that they are from feuding families.

Romeo and Juliet have yet to discover they're from opposing families. Dramatic irony is when the reader knows something (ironic) that the characters do not.

Answer:

Romeo and Juliet have yet to discover that they are from feuding families.

Step-by-step explanation:

Dramatic irony is a literary device where the audience are fully aware of what is going on or what is happening but the characters themselves are not aware about it.

In William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", the two lovers Romeo and Juliet had just found each other and fallen in love. But they did not seem to know anything more about their own family dispute. They just thought that their families will approve and be happy about their relationship. This present scene in Act I Scene v shows the start of their love and relationship. But we, the readers are already aware of the feud between the two families. This, is a case of dramatic irony in the play.
